Hello there,I really appreciate your photos. I want to tell you I lived with my family in late 60's until 1977 at the Brown Mountain Gate House. My father was ,Roy Stamey, of course a ranger at Acadia. I couldn't have grown up in a better house or location. I cried the whole time looking at your photos. Seeing the bedroom I slept in with my sister for years was glorious. What made me happy is all the windows are still original and mostly everything else.I now live in Tennessee and now realize I was spoiled rotten living in such a great place. I haven't been back in over 25 years, thats sad. I would love to have the photos you took on a disk or something. Any thing at all would be grand. My name is now Cheryl Purdom. Very sentimental about anything to do with Mount Desert Island. Every time I look at these photos I will cry.Quite different so many years later without all of our stuff in the home. Thank you so much for the memories.

Lynn, sorry I didn't respond sooner. I am catching up on blogging. Thanks for the comments. I too like to see MDI when I am not there. I keep the web cams bookmarked! I think you might like to see my most recent post about the Brown Mountain Gate Lodge.

Sue Anne, since I am in snowy NYC this morning but thinking about what it must look like in Acadia, I decided to search for some photos of the Somesville Bridge to use as my computer's background. I came across you and your beautiful images! I'm also a part-time MDI resident. Thank you for capturing the island so exquisitely so we can all enjoy it when we are not there!

So wish I could be there, Sue Anne. Both these images in the post are so so beautiful! I like what the newspaper writer said, too, about seeing enough to know what it is but just never having seen it quite this way before. It's inspiring to me to see this new work! Always a teacher, you.
